Top gear ... Ferrari made of 1,999 items of clothesThe car is made from a staggering 1,999 items – including 1,682 t-shirts, 88 pairs of jeans, 64 pairs of shoes and 31 belts.

A team of eight people worked for five hours at the Puma store in Carnaby Street, London, to turn the pile of clothes into a model of Kimi Raikkonen’s motor.

Black jeans are used for the tyres and red t-shirts give the car its classic Ferrari colour.

Designed by Pininfarina, the 458 Italia will be powered by an all-new 4.5-liter direct-injection V8 that yields 570HP at 9,000 rpm and 398.2 lb-ft of torque (540Nm) at 6,000 rpm. Eighty percent of this torque is available at a low 3,250 rpm.

Ferrari Enthusiasts And Horsepower

Peconic – If you are above the grass and love automobiles the Ferrari Club rally at Pindar Vineyards in Peconic was the place to be on Saturday, May 9. Proud owners showcased the classic sports cars to the delight of aficionados who came from far and wide to this North Fork vineyard to be among these awesome collections of wheels.

Incredible turquoise blue Porsche.

The misty soft day put no damper on the activities and was great for the finer details of shooting these old and new, cherished ‘friends.’ The “Run Out East” attendance showed the timeless appeal of ushering new members to the ‘car occult.’

The start of a few engines just to rev up the crowd, as this was a stationary showcase, making those “Grand Prix” sounds made me think back to the classic races at Watkins Glen during the 1950s through the 1970s. The mantra of smooth engine sounds hit the nervous system with a little race day excitement.

Stunning foot deep paint job on this Corvette.

Ferrari
The top-of-the-line design never falters in any decade. In fact, the opportunity to own one of the custom design masterpieces with that well-known and well-loved yellow and black prancing horse emblem is as desirable to a car lover as water is to a thirsty man. Most of the owners expressed their respect and adoration of Enzio Ferrari and his family. Bright paint, chrome, detailing and upholstery made this display some serious eye candy.

Another appealing aspect of this regal automotive display was the number of female car enthusiasts in attendance – reminding me of my fondness for satin clad women with stilettos on the accelerator. Also, it seems an unusual number of the cars were red – maybe for love – maybe just for passion.

It’s All In The Details
The bulbous, streamline curves of the old Ferrari racing cars have given way over the years to a more rectilinear design, but in many of the Ferraris on display (1980s and up), there seems to be a merging back to their sleek race car roots.

Check out these horses.

And The Rest
This day’s showcase was certainly about Ferrari Club members, however, there were some sweet vintage Fiats, Aston Martins, Porches, Corvettes and Chrysler Vipers. I would have been happy to drive home in any one of them. A beautiful Turquoise Porche Carerra also caught my eye because of the ace blue color giving this well-loved 1980s vehicle a pumped-out look.

Ferrari 458 Italia Spider

Ferrari expects to roll out a drop-top companion to the new 458 Italia, along with successors to the 612 Scaglietti and the 599 Fiorano, over the next six years.

The Ferrari 458 Italia Spider should arrive in early 2011, according to CEO Amedeo Felisa in an interview with Britain’s Car magazine. Felisa, who took over the top job last year, added that it is “too early” to talk about plans for an even more potent Scuderia edition of the latest Pininfarina design.

Amedeo said a new supercar - a spiritual successor to the Enzo — is due “around 2012,” according to Car, with replacements for the 612 Scaglietti and the 599 Fiorano to follow by 2015.

As for a hybrid-powered Ferrari road car, that’s still at least four years away.
